Our School Value this half term is Courage

We have been learning about Chris Bertish who was not a ranked surfer nor was he well known or had a sponsor. He ended up winning the most famous surfing event in the world called The Mavericks (Biggest wave) in Half Moon Bay Califonia. Four weeks before the competition he broke his leg but he carried on training. Then when he tried to get on the plane they had sold all the seats even though he had a ticket for the plane. He manged to talk his way on and sat in a stewardest seat. When he got to Califonia the airline had lost his suitcase, surfboard and wetsuit. https://vimeo.com/125697960

He had to borrow a surf board and wetsuit. Against all the odds Chris ended up winning the competition.

Chris then decided to paddleboard across the Atlantic Ocean all on his own from Morocco to Antigua . It took him 93 days, 4050 miles. His paddleboard was attacked by a giant squid, he had to surf 10 foot waves (as tall as the houses on Poundbury) and he lost contact with the outside world. He still achieved his goal.

As a class we have signed Chris’s Dreamweaver Code. So in Meadow 1 we will never ever give up how ever hard our goal is during our time in year 1.
